PC Peter Lightfoot

Special Constable Peter Lightfoot gave off duty soldier Lance Corporal Mark Aspinall 'a good beating' outside a bar then deliberately lied in court in a bid to cover up his actions.

The incident was caught on CCTV and showed Lightfoot pushing the drunken soldier's head to the ground, rubbing his face in the tarmac and hitting him with his police helmet.

Lightfoot claimed Mr Aspinall had struggled violently while being arrested by him and two other officers after being thrown out of a bar for being drunk in the early hours of July 27, 2008. As a result Mr Aspinall was convicted of two counts of assaulting a police officer but this was later quashed on appeal when the CCTV footage was played to the court.

During the trial, it emerged that Lightfoot became a special constable in 1990 but was forced to resign in 1993 following his arrest for criminal damage. He was allowed re-join in 2001 but was the subject of an internal investigation for using excessive force on a member of the public during an arrest.

Sentenced to two years for assault and 12 months for perjury, he is a disgrace to the uniform and should remain forever unforgiven.

I do hope the 'chaps' inside give him the welcome he deserves.
